Greetings from all of us at New Imaginism! We have some very exciting news in regards to one of our artists Professor Herman Bean:

Herman Bean plans to destroy Rodin’s masterpiece “The Kiss”

Paris, France: Briton Herman Bean, contemporary artist and art professor has put the Musée Rodin in Paris on notice, releasing a statement that claims he plans to destroy one of Rodin’s classical sculptures “La Baisee” with a sledgehammer and is inviting important figures in the art world to partake.

Professor Bean is part of a new contemporary art movement called “New Imaginism” to be launched later this year. The new art form eschews the reliance on the physical representation of established artwork and he has vowed to create “better, more intimate, more real art” that people will cherish forever in their hearts and minds, rather than the old art/craft, which can easily be reproduced these days in sweat shops in Asia.

On becoming “incredibly depressed” at seeing this great art work “lonely and unloved in the garden of the Musée Rodin” on a cold winters day, Bean made his decision to turn “The Kiss” into rubble.

Bean has said:

“Creation is destruction” when questioned about his intentions. “Like the experience of the death of a loved one, we only realise what we have lost, when it’s gone. Once “The Kiss” is smashed into thousands of pieces and is destroyed - we will love and appreciate it, and art itself, even more. As a symbolic archetype of forbidden love, it should not be forgotten in an old, cold French garden.

With the pain and passions inflamed around its destruction, I aim to burn the aesthetic beauty and memory of this work into our collective imagination forever.”

Artists before Bean have destroyed or defaced other artist’s works and objects as an act of art. Most recently, contemporary artist Maurizio Cattelan has slowly and excruciatingly, destroyed new cars with large rocks in public performances. Events of this scale are often staged to make a significant impact with the audience, both present to witness the destruction, as well as for those who experience art through mass media.

We searched about and found this link on the web- perhaps this may be a clue to his madness?

But who the heck is Herman Bean?

Who is the man who has become so prolific in the New Imaginist circle?
He offered us a rather reserved insight into his life:

Telling us that in a previous life, he had graduated from a prestigious British College in the late eighties with a Phd in fine arts and linguistics, Herman bean criticized many examples of contemporary and classical art and has responded by creating some unique and celebrated works of his own.

An event he calls “The Awakening” inspired him to leave his post as professor and become a recluse. Bean refers to by the “awakening” apart from his minimalist description which claims was “an intense pseudo-psychic experience where I felt my place in the world clearly for the first time”. Bean refused to further comment when questioned about this.

Bean chose a pseudonym for himself, hoping that distancing himself from his own previous work would help his new art be seen in the right way and eschews all questions regarding his history, claiming that “All it succeeds in doing is tinting the glasses of the observer. When looking at my art, the viewer will apply a color to the piece which I never would have suspected nor intended.

This is one of the reasons that I wanted to pursue an artistic form which did not require the audience to wear glasses at all- regardless of their proficiency in seeing. I therefore became Herman Bean by choice, specifically to avoid this problem once and for all.”

Bean has traveled the world, interacting with many leaders of various religious and spiritual organizations as well as many experts in various fields, such as artists, psychologists, linguists, hypnotists and many others.

During his long trip, through a cunning combination of ancient wisdoms passed down to him from mentors juxtaposed with an insatiable faith in modern technology, Bean was able to find and collaborate with a group of like-minded individuals, becoming one of the founders of the New Imaginist movement.

We look forward to hearing more from this very eccentric individual!
