Hello again and welcome to the twisted parallel universe inhabited by the New Imaginists!

Controversy erupted this week as psychiatrists and art critics united to express their concerns regarding the potential effects of certain New Imaginist artworks on vulnerable audiences. The New Imaginists have struggled to focus on the creation of mind-blowing art this week as reporters, social commentators and paparazzi descended upon the Imaginarium. The hype has been so intense that Colin Colorful, a founding member of the New Imaginists, has fled the Imaginarium and gone into hiding. Here’s the latest:

Art censorship controversy engulfs New Imaginism!

Psychiatrists and art critics have claimed that New Imaginism artworks should be censored, or even banned, because they have the potential to radically alter the state of mind of audiences.

Dr Franklin Rickard, Ph.D. led the chorus of protests after learning that Colin Colorful has created a response to Edvard Munch’s ‘The Scream’ that is so intense and immersive that it has the potential to induce severe anxiety and panic in viewers.

Dr Rickard and his supporters say New Imaginist artworks should be banned or at least censored, labeling the experiencing of Imaginating as a “cult practice” and “a dangerous so-called art akin to mixing a variety of mind altering hallucinogenic drugs”.

A number of art critics have also come out against the idea of New Imaginism, claiming that New Imaginism should not be recognized as an art form because it “relies on deception and fantasy rather than artistic skill” and “lacks a tangible, physical form”.

Colorful, who reacted angrily to criticism of his artworks, has earned the dubious honor of becoming the first artist in history to be embroiled in scandal before releasing any works for public or private viewing.

Speaking from an undisclosed location, Colorful defended New Imaginism and rejected calls for a ban on his artworks.

“My goal, and the goal of every artist, is to create works that live on in the mind of audiences long after they experience them. What better way to achieve this than to offer a highly personal, intense and potentially life-changing artwork to my audience? Critics are always are always behind the times that’s no surprise, psychiatrists on the other hand, have no place in art or shortly we’ll be seeing drugs prescribed for overactive imagination disorders. OID - it already has a good acronym for them to peddle, don’t be surprised to see it soon on a supermarket shelf near you.”

“I make no apologies for creating a work that alters the state of mind of my audience. We are leaving the Age of Information and entering the Age of Mind, we need to prepare. If any audience member chooses to experience a primal scream as a result of my art, I will have achieved my transhumanist artistic objective of immersing and rebirthing them from Edvard Munch’s ‘The Scream’”.

Meet Colin Colorful

African-Australian Colorful is a founding member of the New Imaginists, and has been described as a curious cross between a savant, trickster, illusionist and cult leader.

He is, in fact, much more than this. According to the other New Imaginists, he is the bedrock that holds them together, a fundamental link between the world of the real and the realms of imagination, from whence most of the New Imaginst's work springs. He is certainly the only one of the artists who has one foot planted firmly on each side of the line, and it is most likely that, if you see one of these artists outside your mindscape, it will be him.

Colorful describes his art as “the active creation of new forms of mind images such that they create something meaningful, novel, aesthetic, entertaining and often things that are impossible to recreate in the external reality, but have their only form of existence in the reality within”.

He recently amused certain members of the artistic community by creating a commemorative piece which implied he was the ‘next big thing’ in conceptual art, comparing himself to luminaries Rene Magritte, Salvador Dali, Joseph Beuys and Yoko Ono. When asked he sees comparisons between himself and the artistic grandmasters of years past, Colorful cryptically replied “You’ll need to close your eyes and ask them yourself …”
